"Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?"
"Yes,
Lord, you know that I love you."
"Then
feed my lambs."

“If we love Jesus, and we say that we do, His
message is clear: build my Church; take care of each other.”

"Holiness is not complicated. How does God know that someone is holy? When
God looks at that person and then looks at Jesus and cannot tell the
difference."

Amigos y Hermanos de
Nicaragua
Showing solidarity
with the victims of Hurricane Felix and other weather-related devastation...
On September 4,
2007, Hurricane Felix, a category 5 storm, slammed into the northern coast
of Nicaragua in Central America. The 162-mile-an-hour winds tore down trees,
destroyed homes, and completely devastated the vast majority of indigenous
communities near the coast and on the plains.
In Puerto Cabezas (Bilwi),
one of the principal cities of the northern Caribbean region, it is still
difficult to find a house that did not suffer damage from the storm.
Authorities report that 90% of the buildings lost roofs, including
structures that served as storm shelters. In Sandy Bay, located 30 miles
north of Bilwi, only 7 out of 1,000 homes remained standing following the
storm. Communities in the plains region lost crops causing widespread food
shortages.
In response to the
needs of the people in this region, a group of Nicaraguans living in Austin,
TX formed
Amigos y Hermanos de Nicaragua. Fundraising activities have assisted in
the construction of nine new homes in the region, and this organization is
committed to building sixteen more, but they need your help.
Each new home that
is constructed costs $3500. Houses are built of cinderblock with wood frames
and metal roofs, making them stronger than the original dwellings and more
able to withstand hurricane-force winds. You and thirty-four other
people, each donating $100.00, can change the lives of a family in
Nicaragua. A donation of $20.00 will provide a yearlong school scholarship
for a boy or girl.
With the active
hurricane season upon us, the needs are great, and your donation will make a
difference. Please prayerful consider making a donation today.
For more information,
click here or to make a donation, please contact
Fr.
Melesio Peter-Espinoza
at San José Parish in Austin, TX at
likus64@yahoo.com.

E-mail
campaign on FOCA
The Diocese of
Austin is participating in a national e-mail campaign to make known
our opposition to the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA).
FOCA goes far
beyond the Roe v. Wade decision to make abortion an entitlement that
the government must fund and promote. FOCA would override state
regulations on abortion, remove a parent’s right to be involved in
their minor daughter’s abortion decision, and require states to allow
partial-birth abortions and other late-term abortions.
Please educate yourself further on this legislation by visiting the link
provided below.
